Donald Pleasence - British character actor, born 5th October 1919, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, died 2nd February 1995, St. Paul de Vence, France, from heart valve replacement surgery complications. Usually seen in villainous or eccentric roles, including Ernst Blofeld in You Only Live Twice (1967). Played a would-be escapee in 'The Great Escape' (1963), and and an SS guard in the TV sequel, 'The Great Escape II: The Untold Story' (1988) (TV).
