Born on July 18, 1893 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He died on September 20, 1949 in Los Angeles, California of a heart attack. He made his film debut in One Of Many (1917). In 1931 he got a best actor Oscar nomination as Yancey Cravat in Cimarron.
