Doctor Who is the world's longest running science fiction TV show. It ran for 26 seasons between 1963 and 1989, plus a TV movie in 1996. Although regular production ceased over ten years ago, the show was never formally cancelled and is still officially on 'hiatus' until the BBC find a satisfactory co-production deal. It now lives on through audio-dramas and books, and has a huge fan following from around the world.
