The Settle to Carlisle Railway was the last great mainline railway to be built in England, and consists of 72 miles of track with 17 major viaducts spanning the ravines and 14 tunnels. It travels between Carlisle, Appleby and Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria, then through the Yorkshire Dales National Park to Settle in North Yorkshire.
