The town of Etna, incorporated in 1904, was first called Rough & Ready in its early Gold Rush days. Later, when it was the primary supply depot for many of the mines in the area, it was called Aetna Mills. Located in the Scott Valley, Etna has a population of approximately 850 people, and sits at the trailhead of the Pacific Crest Trail.
