Turlock, located in Stanislaus County, had a 2001 population of almost 58,000, making it the second largest city in the county. Turlock is about 20 miles south of Modesto, the county seat and largest city, and is the home of California State University Stanislaus. Agriculture is a major local industry. Commuters from the San Francisco Bay Area live in Turlock, but the city is served by media from Modesto and Sacramento.
