Known as the Man in Black, The Intimidator and Ironhead, Dale Earnhardt enjoyed competing in the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit from 1979 to 2001. He is the only driver in NASCAR history to have followed "Rookie of the Year" honors with a Winston Cup Championship the next year. He earned seven Winston Cup Championship titles and is tied with Richard Petty for the most titles won. His success on the track was equaled by his success as a car owner. The company he and wife Teresa founded, Dale Earnhardt Inc., is one of the premier teams in NASCAR competition.
Dale Earnhardt established a fund with Foundation For The Carolinas in 1997 through which he contributed to his favorite charities. The Earnhardt family requests fans wishing to honor his memory do so by making a gift to the fund. www.fftc.org/donate/earnhardt.html
